What You Know Matters

Dave confidently took his place in the stadium’s grandstand, watching the crowd pulse with energy as people shouted with fear. He made another attempt to make a call, aware that the busy lines only indicated the event’s intensity. Despite the chaos, he remained calm while onlookers teetered dangerously on the railings. A surge of fans pushed toward the exits, eager to leave, yet he knew that panic wouldn’t hinder him. Once again, Dave dialled, acknowledging that emergency services were undoubtedly overwhelmed by the situation. He decided to stay put in the topmost row of the stadium, ready for whatever came next.

When In Doubt, Do Not

To his surprise, his face appeared prominently on the stadium billboards. A commanding voice echoed to the lone man seated at the top row of an empty stadium section, instructing him to get to safety. His astonished expression was broadcast as the emergency responders in a helicopter hovered above the stadium. They could not land but were attempting to restore order below them. They urged him to find a safe area, directing him to head for the centre of the field. He confidently signalled for them to remain calm and pointed at the frenzied crowd, already making a mad dash toward the centre of the field.

What You Do Not Know Matters

Surely, they could see that safety would not be found in heading to the field. He confidently gestured at his phone, determined to find a way to contact the authorities. Still, the chopper moved on to another section, working diligently to calm the panicked crowd and guide them to safety in an orderly manner. Dave thought the moment for people to stay calm had long passed. If the screams of those trampled beneath the chaos had not driven order to prevail, nothing would. Yet, it was their duty, and he felt fortunate to have high seats. The tide of the unthinking mob surged downward toward the gate, sparing him any harm as those in his section succumbed to the panic, desperately trying to exit the stadium.
