The Subtle Invasion of Pride
pride wears humility as camouflage, but bristles at correction.
It settles in false repentance and grows roots in the soil of our new beginnings.
Pride calls itself confidence, but fears being found wrong.
It shrinks virtue to elevate its shadow, deaf to wisdom’s whisper, blind to the mirror of truth.
Cyclical Errors and Withholding Growth
Pride rushes with purpose, yet circles the same errors.
It withholds space so others can’t bloom.
It sees in others what it hides in itself.
And when grace arrives, it arms itself with critique.
The Consequences of Pride
God does not endorse pride …
It must be brought to the altar, bound and named.
Only then can mercy work its surgery.
Yet it makes a God of itself.
Pride as Spiritual Sickness
Pride is not just an attitude but a cloak of self-importance, sneaking into any attempts at renewal.
It is a spiritual illness that resists healing because it refuses to admit it’s sick. Redemption isn’t withheld from the proud; it’s forfeited when pride becomes a veil that obscures repentance.
Scriptural Reflection
James 4:5 – 7
The Spirit within us longs with divine jealousy, not for control but intimacy and purity. God opposes the proud yet floods the humble with grace. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Pride disguises itself as humility, hinders growth, and blocks redemption. True healing requires recognising pride’s impact and accepting God’s grace.
