A pharisee opposing Jesus Christ

The Healer’s Dilemma: When Truth Is Rejected

The contrast between pride and humility, rejection and redemption

A healer cannot restore those who deny their need for healing. The proud expend their resources not to find wholeness, but to conspire against those God sends to share the good news. In contrast, the humble are open to correction and redemption. Pride distorts the heartโ€”those who idolise themselves reject divine help, striving to establish their own righteousness apart from God. Such individuals voluntarily align with evil, abandoning the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Their malice goes unchecked, mistaking God’s mercy for approval, but God does not stand idly by.

โš–๏ธ Divine Opposition: God’s Protection of His Servants

God must oppose the proud, not out of wrath alone, but to protect the humble servants who face real danger in their presence. Scripture shows this clearly in the example of the Pharisees, who schemed to eliminate Jesus Christ because His truth challenged their authority and deviation from God’s ways. Their pride sealed their fate, and Judas Iscariot joined that fateโ€”not because Christ rejected him, but because Judas chose to walk beyond redemption.

  • “While I was with them, I protected and preserved them by Your nameโ€ฆ Not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction (perdition).”

๐Ÿช” Investing in Fertile Soil: Walking Away with Grace

As believers, we must steward our efforts and resources wisely. When pride confronts us, we face spiritual opposition from those who would rather harm God’s messengers than examine their hearts. They battle for worldly gain while claiming divine favourโ€”an ironic war against the kingdom they profess to desire.

Our calling in such moments is not to fight, but to walk away. We must dust off our feet so we do not carry the corruption. This is not abandonmentโ€”it is obedience, trusting God to finish the work we were not permitted to complete. We bear witness that every soul had the opportunity for deliverance and rejected it in free will.

John 17:12 illustrates Christ’s protective authority and the fulfilment of Scripture, even in the sorrow of loss. When left unchecked, Pride morphs into a spiritual campaign against truth. In addition, the humble aren’t merely meekโ€”they are receptive and resilient.

Questions to reflect on

  • Where have I mistaken mercy for approval?
  • Am I stewarding truth or striving to prove it?
  • What does “dusting off my feet” look like in my current relationships or ministry?

Prayer Prompt

Lord, grant me discernment to recognise when my efforts are resisted not by ignorance, but by pride. Help me walk away with grace, trusting You to finish what I cannot. Keep my heart tender, my spirit obedient, and my feet clean from the dust of rejection.
