Qualifications don’t always equate to knowledge and skills. Some people with many qualifications cannot perform as expected. On the other hand, a less qualified individual who works hard may surpass the level of their qualifications. While they may not have formal certificates, they develop the necessary competencies through personal growth. Assuming these individuals are empty vessels who believed in themselves insults the efforts. Attempts to emulate them will overlook the struggles they endured to achieve their goals, leading to failure.

Motivation or Misdirection

Many motivational quotes may lead to failure by fostering the belief that people’s achievements are not based on capability. Having a certificate does not necessarily qualify a person who has never demonstrated their abilities. If a qualification is required, it should be supported by actual skills. Making assumptions about someone’s lack of qualifications, equals a lack of skills, can attract entitled individuals. Entitlement fails to appreciate the effort others put in to achieve their goals. Many people possess untapped talents that could help them overcome challenges. Unfortunately, biased assessment of available resources often leads to improper utilization or underutilization.

Who Is on Your Team Matters

Any endeavour led by individuals who fail to appreciate and respect the work of others is unlikely to endure. They often approach situations with closed minds, believing their qualifications make them superior to others. However, reality has a way of humbling such individuals.

Scratch Beneath the Surface

As an entrepreneur, it’s important to remember that we often only see a small part of the picture. It’s crucial not to jump to conclusions based on the 10% visible, as every person has a whole 90% hidden. Qualifications alone do not accurately measure a person’s knowledge and skills; the actual task truly demonstrates their capabilities. Remembering that there’s often more than meets the eye will help us stay vigilant and empathetic. By exercising discernment, we can effectively and efficiently utilize our talents and those of people around us. We need to scratch the surface to understand the prevailing circumstances clearly.
