Hoping For the Best, Preparing for The Worst
Once, I had an examination session in the morning. I had diligently prepared all the necessary materials the weekend before. I checked the car and road conditions. I intended to arrive at the venue two hours early to spend some time there. This made me feel composed and in control, ready to handle any unexpected events. Everything initially went according to plan, and all seemed well. However, when I was just five minutes away, I encountered the longest chain of traffic. I had never seen so many cars on that road. The cars ahead of me were completely stationary. I wasn’t sure if I would reach my destination. Not even in two hours, especially if there was a possible road traffic accident during rush hour.
Taking A Detour
Fortunately, an exit was just a few meters ahead, so I swiftly changed lanes and embarked on a detour. The alternative route ran parallel to the previous road. Although the traffic was dense, it was a relief that it was constantly in motion. I was confident I could reach my destination with an hour to spare. I resisted the urge to check the time constantly. Knowing it would only heighten my anxiety without making the traffic move any faster. Instead, I cranked up my energizing tunes and belted out the lyrics. At least the beats were fast as we inched forward at a frustratingly sluggish pace.
The detour supposedly took me “a little” out of the way, but in reality, it added another ten minutes to my journey if the traffic flow was normal. Finally, I reached the road that was supposed to reconnect me with the one I left at the intersection. However, as soon as I joined the road, traffic almost came to a standstill. It’s hard to believe that whatever caused the traffic jam was conveniently located before my intended exit. I had made some headway, but I was still stuck. Ultimately, I had to follow the few cars moving onto a detour to the right. It was in the general direction of my venue, and I hoped for some relief.
Meeting The Unexpected Creates More Options
I had hoped that taking the scenic route would magically make the traffic disappear. Or at least lead me to a shopping mall. Unlike the straight road with no leeway, I could park the vehicle and walk the rest of the way. According to my calculations, I had a good thirty minutes to spare if I chose to go that way. Thank goodness I had left home early! Despite a few unexpected twists and turns, I was still moving forward, and that was a win in my book. The road I was on was a bit of a mess. There were giant potholes. I tried to dodge them like a pro. So, off I went, heading in the general direction of north and east, using my destination as a guide like a campus. I continued to make my way northeast on the unfamiliar course.
