A car on a road

The Purpose of Planning Part 2

The roads I travelled were surprisingly bare, with most vehicles bound for destinations along those streets but no further. Why was I the only one taking that route when heavy traffic congested the main roads? Had others already journeyed down that path, or had they missed the turn and realised too late that an alternate route existed? Surely, those familiar with the area would have been ahead or behind me. Yet there I was, navigating each turn alone. Was I not travelling towards other people’s driveways?

I nearly considered turning back, thinking I had gone off course. However, the mall and market were well known and couldn’t have been too far. Two minutes later, I found myself back on the main road I had initially departed from, but I was considerably further along. I was near my desired destination, yet I failed to recognise it because I had never taken that feeder road before. Thus, none of the landmarks were familiar from that vantage point.

Change In Perspective

When I exited it, I realised it was a familiar dirt road. I must have passed it thousands of times in the last decade. All the landmarks were once more reassuringly familiar to me. My confidence soared as the odds of reaching my target increased. I was now ahead of the traffic jam. The road was uncharacteristically empty for that time of day because everyone else was still held up further back. I was further along than needed, but I turned south before branching into an avenue leading to the venue.

All Roads Lead to Rome: The Road to Rome

I cruised through the empty streets, with nothing but open roads ahead of me. As I arrived at my destination an hour early, I had the luxury of choosing the perfect parking spot while others from the west were stuck in a seemingly endless traffic jam. From my vantage point, I could observe the slow-moving cars on the main road, indicating severe congestion. Despite taking a few calculated risks and encountering some unexpected hurdles, I was grateful for the detour that allowed me the time to gather my thoughts. The rest of the day unfolded smoothly according to plan, and I even discovered a new route that could prove helpful in future: Several detours to and from the central business district. It was a morning filled with unexpected victories.
