Turning Away from Divine Guidance

When The World Chooses Evil Over You Part 3

Matthew 27:19-21

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered.

Consequences of Turning Away from Divine Guidance

One significant consequence of turning away from God is the hardening of the heart. Without Divine guidance, people tend to follow worldly desires and dark influences. The people’s loyalty to corrupted spiritual leaders affected their choices. They preferred a leader who could harm them over one who could help them. This choice seemed ridiculous, yet they no longer recognized its wrongness. Physically, their decision was harmful. Spiritually, they let hate and greed allow forces that aimed for their destruction to take hold. They were opposing someone trying to protect them from those destructive forces.

The Consequence of Spiritual Betrayal

The Jews were fighting against themselves when they falsely condemned Jesus Christ by accepting evil influences for short-term benefits. They would suffer physically and spiritually, yet they were willing to riot to bring about their destruction. They even condemned their children by proudly stating they and their children would accept the consequences. The forces they followed sought to condemn their souls and those of future generations forever. The people were willing to give up their souls for the pleasures of the world.

In Conclusion

In Matthew 27:19-21, the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowd to choose Barabbas over Jesus, revealing the consequences of rejecting divine guidance. This hardening of hearts caused people to prefer a murderer over a saviour due to unquestioning loyalty to corrupt leaders. Their choice demonstrated the danger of allowing hate and greed to influence their decisions, leading to spiritual and physical ruin. Ultimately, they condemned themselves and their future generations by embracing evil forces.
