Why should I be the bigger person? Part 3

Will they ever get punished for their deeds?

Most people believe they would find it easier to forgive offenders if they were guaranteed retribution. Or if they received a sincere apology or explanation as part of closure. Unfortunately, none of these outcomes are inevitable. Especially when dealing with people with narcissistic or sociopathic tendencies, they believe the end justifies the means. In many cases, they delete the evidence and memories of nasty means and replace it with a narrative that puts them in a good light and you in a bad one.

They are usually entitled, believe their actions justified, and lack empathy or genuine concern for others. For them, it is all about winning the game. They boast about their prize and believe they are better. In many cases, they see themselves as being correct and representative of what is good. So consider them revealing their nature to you as all the closure you need. Do not expect any positive results if you try to reason with them.

The previous articles show that malice is a product of small-minded, evil, or self-centred people. In contrast, magnanimity is an act of insight, thoughtfulness, control, self-awareness, wisdom, empathy and logic. These exceptional qualities are only found in grown, purpose-oriented and mature people. We, therefore, cannot expect magnanimity from small-minded, self-centred people, but we can limit their influence and damage.

We are all held accountable for our actions, whether good or bad. Whether we shall see evildoers being punished is up to God. We do not know when or how any of us are reprimanded for our sins, but being forgiven does not mean people will never face the consequences of their actions. Healing comes when a wounded party focuses on their happiness and does not care whether the wrongdoer is suffering. Frankly, contemplating the fate of such lost lives wastes valuable time.
