Why should we accept and celebrate our differences when we could adjust to fit in?

No one ever found themselves in the crowd because a crowd is meant to be a collection of individuals, not the other way around. To be different is to acknowledge reality. That no two people think and act the same is a beautiful and simple truth about life. Be unapologetically you. It is pretentious to seek acceptance from others when you have not accepted yourself.

The whole is the sum of many parts

Consider a champion athlete or stunt person. They probably see things and think differently. Their body has balance, stamina, and agility. Their legs have the strength and skill to do what is required to excel in their trade. They visualize the moves in their mind, their brain calculates, and their bodies’ body executes.

They use multiple talents within them in synchrony (unity), although most people only see the execution of the efforts. A football player may have made a decent triathlete or a good rugby player, but an exceptional football player. Each sportsperson uses a combination of skills to specialize in the area where their abilities will produce maximum returns. 

Is there an advantage to accepting our differences?

If one is a spanner, finding the nut that fits the skillset for a worthy cause is ideal. When nature meets purpose, the focused and intentional effort produces magic. God graced us with gifts, opportunities, and a purpose. The ability to resist temptations/ distractions and invest in our talents is the key to unlocking our destiny. How well we prepare and fit our predestined calling determines the yields of the rewards. 

We can nurture the soil to receive good seeds to yield a hundredfold harvest. Adjusting to become like others will dilute or destroy our chance to contribute something unique.

“But those that were down on the good soil are the ones who hear the word, accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and hundredfold.” – Mark 4:20. How can we identify and maximize our talents? Keep an open mind, be willing to work, and practise, especially when no one is watching.
