Why is character so important?
It is the foundation on which all your aspirations are built. A man/ woman’s life culminates from a series of choices. Character determines our attitude towards learning and how we apply our skills. Character determines whether we will work hard and study to achieve our goals. Or cheat (leakage)/memorise material without understanding to progress to the next level without achieving the intended learning outcomes. With the former, a person is aware that they need to improve themselves to hold the mantle that life and career will place on them. They want to add value to themselves and everything they do, at home or work.
Consequences of education without good character
Those who do not do their part plan to make those around them bear the burden of their lack of preparedness. They are willing to do evil things to get to the top. They cannot adapt to changing situations or produce practical innovations. Other people’s achievements or potential easily threaten them, often taking offence to people with different views and methods. Such people usually add no value to an institution, even when they hold positions of influence. These traits contribute to high levels of corruption and unprofessionalism in workplaces. Your attitude and character will determine which of the two futures you will have.
Maximizing learning
Learning is most effective when acknowledging shortcomings and seeking solutions to fill the gaps. Such is the attitude of a lifelong learner. Education comes from inside and outside the classroom. Knowledge can come from a subordinate or a superior. A lifelong learner can recognize the sources and usefulness of certain information and skills. They can internationalize the new information, integrate it with what they already know and produce new uses for old data. It is this skill that gives birth to entrepreneurship.
Becoming relevant to society
A person can determine a lack in a system or society and become or provide solutions at a fee. They have the same education and opportunities as everyone else, but they are willing and able to turn those skills into a living. An open mind, willingness to learn and work hard are gifts that make the most of ones intellect and available resources. One learns the value of their unique individual traits. Such people usually appreciate the unique individuality of others. That is why they can identify and form unique teams that add value to their objectives.
Using Authenticity in Productivity
You do not have to be like everyone else to achieve your goals, which is peer pressure, not teamwork. Be wary of systems that thrive without any checks and balances. Conformity rarely promotes creativity and adaptation. It may work in heavily subsidized government setups but not in private sector where sound output and profits are essential. Do not rely on things that can be taken away from you. Connections cannot sustain anyone. The person collapses immediately when their connections lose influence or connections are lost. Stand firm on what you build.
